Photographing people over time
A portrait photograph should say something about who you are, not only what you look like.
And people change over time. That is why it is so interesting when we look back on photos taken years earlier. Take a look at the next few photographs and you will see what I mean. The first two photos in this set are of Mikayla back in 2010 and 2011. I was just starting to out in portrait photography and she was one of my very first subjects. I was always looking for willing models and she and I shot together quite a few times.
The third photo was taken five years later in 2016. Here is Mikayla with her partner Ryan. Mikayla is expecting her first child in this photo. And the final two shots were taken only a month ago in Oct, 2017 when I was back in Calgary. By now her daughter Sofia was born. Mikayla and Ryan met with me on an afternoon on a beautiful fall day. And they are with their new daughter Sofia. She is 15 months old in this photo. And in fact Mikayla has another baby on the way and due spring on 2018.
Photography is a great way to capture how things in your life change over time. In fact that is one of the most important functions of a photograph.
Important memories happen all the time. Portrait photography and family photography are ways to capture those memories and to preserve them. Talk to me. Let me show you how I can help you.
Over time I have photographed everyone from tiny babies to great grandparents and everyone in between. They all deserve great photographs and each requires a slightly different approach.
Why does it matter? Many things in your life are important, not only the big events. Even if this is the first time you and I have met I will make sure you get great photos. I will never photograph people according to process or procedure. Your memories count!
I am a Kingston based portrait photographer. I cover all of southern and eastern Ontario. Let me help you to record your memories!
